Purpose

Advancing EMC and RF Engineering

Stancer Testing-Lab established this annual award to recognize emerging researchers whose work demonstrates technical excellence, originality and meaningful impact in electromagnetic compatibility or RF engineering.

The initiative aims to strengthen the connection between Canadian academic research and real-world engineering challenges.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply?

Pathway 01

Master’s Graduates

Applicants must have:

  • Completed a research-based Master’s degree at a recognized Canadian university
  • Received final approval of their thesis between January 1, 2025 and January 30, 2027
  • Conducted research with a clear contribution to EMC or RF engineering
Pathway 02

Current PhD Students

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a PhD program at a recognized Canadian university
  • Have completed their candidacy, comprehensive examination or equivalent milestone, where applicable
  • Submit work forming a substantive part of their doctoral research
  • Have at least one verifiable thesis-related research output

International students are eligible when studying at—or recently graduating from—a qualifying Canadian university. The two pathways form one competition leading to one recipient.

What to Submit

Curriculum Vitae

An up-to-date CV of no more than three pages.

Research Summary

A summary of no more than 1,500 words describing the problem, methodology, findings, originality, impact and individual contribution.

Research Outputs

A list of thesis-related publications and other outputs, including DOI or stable links where available.

Academic Verification

Documentation confirming degree completion or current PhD status.

Supervisor Verification

Confirmation of the applicant’s academic status and individual research contribution.

A complete thesis should not be uploaded. Applicants may provide an optional institutional-repository link. Confidential, proprietary or restricted information must not be submitted.

Applications will be reviewed by a technical jury that includes independent specialists. Accomplishments will be considered in relation to each applicant’s academic stage.

Recognition

Connecting Research with Industry

The selected recipient will be invited to share their research with Stancer’s academic, engineering and industry network. With the recipient’s approval, Stancer may publish a professional research profile and arrange a technical interview or webinar.

Application documents and unpublished research will remain private.

Can I apply in French?

Yes. Applications may be submitted in English or French.

Must I upload my complete thesis?

No. Submit the required research summary and, optionally, a link to your institutional repository.

Can collaborative research be submitted?

Yes. You must clearly identify your individual intellectual and technical contribution.

Are unpublished results eligible?

They may support an application if they can be verified. Confidential, proprietary or restricted information must not be submitted.

How will the recipient be selected?

A technical jury will evaluate eligible applications using the published criteria.

Will my application be published?

No. Any public information about the selected recipient will require separate approval.
